We were so close to the end! We had reached the final door of the trial, ending that painful nightmare was so close at hand. All we had to do was open the door and we wouldn't have to worry about our lives anymore or killing others!
I had quickly grabbed the keys out of my pocket, but as I was fumbling to find the right key they slipped out of my hands. I cursed at my shaking hands and just crashed onto the dusty rock ground, sitting on my knees. I lifted one knee up in preparation to jump back up onto my feet after I went to quickly snatch the keys back up. But I was interrupted by a blur of narrow wooden brown and a gleam that brought a sudden sting to my finger tips.
I gasped and recoiled back from the shock, falling over but catching myself on my elbow. My heart pounded as I stared at the arrow now stuck in the ground in front of the keys and droplets of my blood on the blade that trailed back to where I was sitting now. I looked at my hand and blood was still trickling down from the tips and mixing in with the dirt, making it a dark black with a shine. My head snapped up as I stopped analyzing and remembered what was going on.
I quickly scrambled back up onto my feet and looked back at my part, yelling " It's not over yet! There's still others--". But I stopped mid sentence as I saw my partner, holding his bow and arrow. And he was aiming at me.
